“Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant”

In today’s Gospel reading (Mk. 10:32-45) we read about the great ambitions of two of Jesus’ disciples. John and James asked Jesus to be on His right and left in His Kingdom. Great ambitions, but at that time not deserved yet. They did deserve to be with Jesus later but not without drinking bitter cup of suffering like Jesus himself did. Not without following our Lord’s requirement: “Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else.” Who wants to be a slave today? Aren’t we fighting against all kind of slaveries? Being slave in Jesus’ eyes and in His teaching means to do humble service to God and to our brothers and sisters. Putting the needs of others in our daily agendas is another way of being slave to others. Only in this way we can deserve a place on Jesus’ right or left in heaven.

God bless you all!
