18th Sunday After Pentecost

Slava Isusu Hristu! Glory be to Jesus Christ!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ!

In the Gospels we have many different ways of calling the apostles to follow Jesus. In today’s account of St. Luke (Lk. 5:1-11) it is presented not with simple words: “Follow me”, as in St. Mark, but with the picture of the apostles catching fish. First Jesus performed a miracle of catching multitude of fish to bring attention to the apostles, especially Peter, and then continuing with the story, invited Peter to “fishing for people.” Jesus is inviting us to be His apostles. He is doing so every day. How did He do it first time? I am sure each and every one of us has a story to share. As we remind ourselves about that, let us also renew our commitment to the invitation and continue to be Jesus’ apostles whom He sends to catch those who don’t know His gift of salvation. Let’s do so without fear and hesitation. He said to Peter: “Do not be afraid!” He is telling the same to you and me today!
