As part of our Safer Environments Policy, anyone who works with Vulnerable people, or has access to church property or funds, needs to submit a “Police Information Check” (PIC) with “Vulnerable Sector Check” (VSC). These documents can only be acquired through your local police detachment. Third party “Police Checks” are not acceptable, so please make sure you are getting your PIC directly from your local police.
The PIC will state if you have ever been arrested and for what reason. We use this information to prevent known criminals from abusing people in and around the church. The VSC includes a check of local police records to determine the existence of a pattern of behaviour that may result in harm to vulnerable persons.
As a volunteer you will be, or perhaps already have been, given a letter letting the Police know that you are a volunteer. (If you need one, please request one from Fr. Bo.) Depending on your local police this might make the PIC free or discounted. If there is a fee, keep your receipt and the parish will reimburse you.
You will need to submit your original copy of the PIC that has been made for the parish to the parish. You can not submit a PIC to us that was created for another organization or employer.
